Burning Life

Artist: Julia Granje

Julia’s artwork is inspired by the myriad benefits nature provides her—physically, mentally, and spiritually. The leaf symbolizes this, with its ramifications reaching different organs in our bodies. However, it seems that Humans are not fully aware of this importance. Human greed is destroying our planet: pollution, climate change, and forests burning... The objective of these paintings are to prompt people to reflect on this reality. All watercolors and pencils used are environmentally friendly.

Let's remember that nature is not only a beautiful thing to look at, but it also sustains life. Nature is life!

Nature And Waste

The artwork presents a captivating juxtaposition between the natural and the man-made. In the foreground, a meticulously detailed plastic bag takes center stage. Rendered in black and white, its crinkled texture suggests a sense of fragility and impermanence. Behind this striking focal point lies a lush, impressionistic landscape. What makes this painting thought-provoking is the tension between the plastic bag and its surroundings. It symbolizes the intrusion of human waste into natural environments. The artist’s choice to emphasize the bag against the backdrop of nature invites reflection on environmental concerns, such as pollution and our impact on the world around us.

The artwork expresses the ignorant bliss of the current human race and how many people live their lives completely unaware of the impending doom their future holds. This doom is showcased in the form of a large body of water that is slowly rising to eventually take over the city, harming millions.

Greed

Artist: Ros

This piece of artwork shows a scene where a turtle is about to be caught. Sea turtles are protected creatures but there are individuals that want to capture them for money. This causes a loss of biodiversity which has a big impact on the environment. This artwork conveys the need to protect animals and their habitats.

Waste

Artist: Ros

“Waste” shows a scene where a whale is stuck in a plastic water bottle with a colorful background. We live in a society where the environment isn’t that well protected and appreciated. One of the bigger environmental issues is product waste in natural animal habitats. In this scenario, the wastage of non-biodegradable products mostly end up in the ocean, which is home to many animals. In the real world, whales could consume the plastic which has harmful chemicals. That is imperial to the animal’s health, overtime it could lead to death and eventually endangers the species. Symbolically, I thought it would be visually pleasing if the whale is in the plastic water bottle in my art piece. It pretty much sums up the current environment which means we should limit plastic usage.

Artist: Cui Yixin

The main sculpture on the gourd lamp depicts maps and plants, accompanied by small circles, flowers, and hearts as embellishments. The artwork conveys the significant impact of plants on the Earth's environment, urging people to cherish plants, care for the environment, and love the Earth.

Our Counterparts

Artist: Cathy Hu

These two abstract paintings are dedicated to the relationship between the earth and the ways in which it exists in us. The paintings are a counterpart of seasons: the liveliness of spring and the blurry layers of winter. They are also a counterpart of feelings: the green optimism of an unfolding connection and the blue hues of overbearing grief. The two paintings capture feelings so intense that they begin to carry the force of nature itself. There is broken rage in a stormy sky and hopeful longing in the springtime fields. We are linked to our worlds, and we hold within us its duality and possibility.

Artist: Sasha Yuxuan Sha

Titled "Head to Head," this watercolor piece by Sasha explores the theme of environmental protection. Inspired by a vision where urban life seamlessly intertwines with nature, the artwork depicts a world where cities and the natural environment coexist. The human and stag stand face to face in a friendly pose, symbolizing collaboration and interaction between humanity and nature. The vibrant background conveys a harmonious mood, showcasing the artist's passion for wildlife and a dream of a united urban-natural landscape.

The artwork “Tug of War” is created by watercolor and micron pen on paper which explores the dual themes of man vs. nature and man vs. man. It reflects the ongoing conflict between industry and the environment in the contemporary world. While some advocate for environmental conservation, others support industrial progress. The incessant debate between these two groups, represented by the mechanical parts tree in the center, results in a stagnant situation, halting any meaningful resolution.
